1. Qigong and Bodymind Healing: The Self Healing Path.
All Day Workshop Friday, Sept 19th, 9 AM- 5 PM.
Become initiated into the thesis outlined in Dr. Michael Mayer’s Secrets… book: Tai Chi and Qigong are initiatory traditions stemming from a long-lost lineage that includes self-healing, spiritual unfoldment, self-defense, and changing your life-stance. You’ll learn self-healing practices from the ten-system integrative method, Bodymind Healing Qigong, that Dr. Mayer synthesized over 30 years of training with some of the most respected Tai Chi/Qigong masters. Drawing from his two books integrating Qigong and Western mind-body healing methods, Dr Mayer presents a blend of anthropological research, case examples from his work in an integrative medical clinic, and stories from ancient, sacred wisdom-traditions. Discover how to work with common ailments—insomnia, anxiety, hypertension, chronic pain– as part of your lifetime preventative medicine program.

9:00-9:30 AM-General Introduction- Presenter’s background integrating Qigong, Psychotherapy and Behavioral Medicine and his co-founding, and being a psychologist at, an integrative medical clinic. Teaching story regarding the cross cultural roots of self-healing. Case example of an integral approach to Carpal Tunnel syndrome.
9:30 -10:30 Integrating Psychotherapy and Qigong – Theoretical framework and case example of anxiety treatment with Bodymind Healing Psychotherapy.
10:45 -12:00 Self- healing methods for health problems. Demonstration of practices and self healing methods for: simultaneously energizing and relaxing the bodymind, dispersing stagnant qi, computer tension in the shoulders, chronic diseases, joint problems and somatic complaints hypertension, preventing falls amongst the elderly, chronic diseases , state-specific trance states,etc.
12:00: 12:30 What Qigong gives psychotherapy, and what Psychotherapy gives Qigong.
Lunch 12:30- 1:30
1:30- 2:15 Powerpoint presentation regarding the cross-cultural pre-modern roots, and modern psychological roots of Qigong, and energy psychology.
2:15-3:00 Demonstration and Practice of selected Qigong and Tai Chi movements which can complement behavioral health treatment for Chinese Medicine yin internal organs: heart, lungs, kidney, stomach, liver. Practices from Dr. Mayer’s Bodymind Healing Qigong DVD.
3:00-3:45 Other Psychological and psycho-physiological disorders. Integrating psychotherapy, behavioral healthcare with Qigong: Applications for other Psychological and Psycho-physiological disorders- Chronic pain; carpal tunnel syndrome, hypertension, insomnia, trauma.

4:00- 4:30 Using Qigong in behavioral healthcare and psychotherapy with no Qigong movements, and no mention of Qigong: The River of Life method of transcending and transmuting psychological issues, acupoint self touch, The Psychotherapy of Shape Shifting: Changing your life stance by transmuting internalizations with body-based energy psychotherapy using patients spontaneously arising movements at the moment of “felt shift.”
4:30-4:45 Research and Ethics.
4:45-5:00 Questions remaining and closing shamanic story.

Dr. Mayer will demonstrate how an integration of Western psychotherapeutic, behavioral healthcare methods and Qigong can help to heal anxiety and other psychological disorders. Case examples will be used to illustrate how the holistic dimensions of this method are integrated in practice.
