Integral Health: Bodymind Healing Approaches for Troubled Times

Dr. Michael Mayer

Our world is in upheaval. Many of our relationships are unstable; and political, economic, and environmental realities are not only unraveling our culture but also our lives. At times like this the “wounded healer” in each of us is called on to find both collective and personal stances toward troubled times. {Integral healthcare must include politics, economics, and the environment.} Using his background as a psychologist who incorporates bodymind healing methods, cross-cultural mythology, Tai Chi/Qigong, metaphysics, and political action in his viewpoint on integral health, Dr. Mayer will present methods for dealing with our responses to adversity and feelings of disempowerment so that we can find new life stances. He will address related conditions such as hypertension, anxiety, insomnia, etc.

Dr. Michael Mayer is a licensed psychologist in private practice in the San Francisco bay area. He presents his integrative approach to bodymind healing at hospitals, universities, and workshops. Dr. Mayer co-founded the Transpersonal Psychology Program at John F. Kennedy University, co-founded an integrative medical clinic, and is a Fellow of the American Association of Integrative Medicine. He is a long-term practitioner and teacher of Tai Chi Chuan and Qigong. Dr. Mayer’s written work includes various peer-reviewed articles on Qigong, psychotherapy, and hypertension; and he is the author of twenty publications on bodymind healing including his latest book, The Path of the Reluctant Metaphysician: Stories and Practices for Troubled Times (Bodymind Healing Publications, 2012), www.reluctantmetaphysician.com
