The Mythic Journey Process
The Mythic Journey Process is a way of harnessing the ancient power of myth to work through modern-day problems. It is a type of narrative psychotherapy process for everyday use, or a tool to complement psychotherapy when you are stuck on a life issue. The method combines psycho-mythological inner work with elements of Dr. Eugene Gendlin’s body-oriented “Focusing” technique. It was originally published in 1982, and has appeared many of Dr Mayer’s subsequent books as an quintessential, integral bodymind healing method.
The most recent version of the process has the journeyer incorporate a Qigong/Tai Ch movement, or a naturally arising posture to anchor the new life stance towards a psychological or somatic issue. It originally appeared in The Focusing Folio, 1982, can be found in Dr. Mayer’s last three books (2007, 2009, 2012). Or if people just want the chapter without the book, it is now made available for download on Gum Road: The Mythic Journey Process, Please click the link.
